Philosophy of Technology

Technology is changing and improving the world we live in.  Many people use technology in their daily lives.  Much of what we do centers around computers and the software and programs associated with computers. This also applies to the classroom learning environment.  Students will have the advantage of learning through the use of technology. The learning tools that come with the use of computers can change a classroom. Computers can help a child to learn their alphabet, learn how to read, and can help to learn how write. Students can do research on endless topics, create projects and have options on the how they learn. The use of computers can allow students to explore, discover, and gain knowledge on many topics and interests.   Technology can motivate students to learn more by allowing creativity and giving the students different, exciting ways to learn.

Technology could and should engage students. Smart boards, overhead projectors, and a multitude of software are just a few of technologies that can be included in the classroom. There are also assistive technology tools for children who have special needs.  As a future special education teacher I will implement technology in my class room that will benefit all of my students, including the special needs. Technology can allow students who have special needs to be included in the mainstream classroom.  For a student who has vision problems, a screen enlarger can help the student to be able to read what is on the computer screen.  Special adaptive keyboards, voice recognition software, and text reading software can assist students when typing.  

I think an important factor of having technology in the classroom is that the teacher needs to make sure that they understand how to use the technology and when the appropriate time would be to implement it into their classroom instruction.  Technical support is needed to help the teacher and the students be successful when using technology on the classroom. If there is not any technical support for the tools, programs, or software, then the technology would not be a benefit to the students and their learning.

 Teachers have so many interesting and fascinating technological possibilities at their disposal.  Through the use of technology, the teacher can provide interactive and stimulating lessons.  As a teacher I will incorporate many different technologies into my classroom.  I hope in my classroom that I will have an ELMO, an overhead projector, a Smart board, and many computers. I would also like to see my students have access to educational software and websites.  I think educational software is a benefit to students because if used correctly each student will be able to learn at their own pace. It is also very important to me to have as many assistive technologies for my children who have Special education needs.

I think teachers should use technology which will help their students learn in the best way possible.  When implemented at the right time, when the right technology is chosen, and when the teacher evaluates the technology they are using, then technology will be extremely beneficial to both teacher and students.
